How is it acceptable to do early closure of the library when students are still working on academic projects during the week of Aug 15th? Poor
We're sorry to hear that you were surprised by the change in Library hours during August. Our opening and closing hours follow the undergraduate academic calendar, hence the change in hours once the Spring/Summer term officially ends. Of course, we acknowledge that academic work may still continue even after the official end to the term, particularly for graduate students whose end of term falls later in August in their academic calendar.
We inform our users of upcoming changes to hours in a number of ways. On the Library homepage, our hours for the day are prominently displayed, which we recently changed as a result of student feedback. Prior to the shift in hours, we update the Library website through a blog post in Library News, which also directly updates our users who follow us on Facebook and Twitter. We unfortunately do not have a PA system to verbally update students in the building.
We'd be happy to hear of any suggestions you may have to ensure that our users are aware of upcoming changes to hours, and what would have been useful for you personally in this regard. And we apologize for the inconvenience to you.
