When you search for a book in the catalogue, the floor number is located next to the call number. In the example below, the book is located on the 9th floor of the Library, on the shelves marked PS.

If you click on the title of the book in the catalogue, you will see this icon on the right-hand side:

Clicking this button will show you which floor the item is located on, the corresponding shelf number, and the item’s specific call number.  The shelf number will direct you to the specific shelf where your book is kept – look for this information on the sides of the shelving. You will still need the call number to find the book on the shelves.

For more help, or if you are unable to locate the book, please ask at the Circulation Desk or the Research Help Desk on the main floor. We can contact Circulation staff on the various stack floors to help you locate a book on the shelves. We also have a video on Understanding Call Numbers which may be helpful when locating books.
